What is a CPS Test?

A CPS (Clicks Per Second) test measures how many times you can click your mouse in a fixed time window. It’s a popular benchmark in Minecraft PvP communities, but also useful for testing your mouse switches and reaction speed in any competitive game.

How to Increase Your CPS

Two common techniques can boost your CPS: jitter clicking (vibrating your forearm muscle to generate rapid clicks) and butterfly clicking (alternating two fingers on the same mouse button). Both techniques can push CPS above 10–14, though they carry some risk of repetitive strain if practiced excessively.

Note: Extremely high CPS achieved through aggressive clicking techniques can increase wrist and finger strain. If you notice discomfort, take breaks and avoid excessive jitter clicking sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

5–7 CPS is average for most gamers using normal clicking. 8–10 CPS is considered skilled. Anything above 10 CPS usually requires specialized clicking techniques like jitter or butterfly clicking.
No — polling rate affects how often position data is reported, not how fast you can physically click. CPS is limited by your finger speed and your mouse switch’s debounce time, not polling rate. Check our Polling Rate Tester for Hz testing.
Yes — cheaper mouse switches have higher debounce delays that can cap your maximum CPS, or cause missed clicks at very high speeds. Premium optical switches found in higher-end gaming mice typically support higher sustained click rates.
